In 2009 COHNA/ACIIST has continued
simplifying and clarifying its mandate despite uncertain
times and
decreasing memberships, resources and volunteers. Most importantly
COHNA focuses
on increasing its visibility and value to its membership.
- One executive position was eliminated by combining the Secretary/Treasurer position now that we have an administrative assistant.
- A change to the bylaws was made where the completion of the term of president would be a year apart from that of the Secretary/Treasurer thus assisting in the continuity of the goals and objectives.
- After an update to the COHNA website it was launched at the CNA Centennial Celebration in Ottawa by distributing postcards with our logo, website and address. These postcards were also distributed in most provinces at provincial workshops, education days and meetings.
- Work on upgrading and improving the website
continues with Board members reviewing and
updating posted COHNA documents as well as adding educational events that may be of
interest to our members. - A survey was developed and launched in May 2009 to
learn more about the Canadian OHN,
(both COHNA members & non-members were included.), and how COHNA could better support
them. The survey link was sent out by all but two provinces to their members, was emailed to
700+ certified OHNs and was promoted on the COHNA website.
- Conference Calls were held every two months for Board
of Directors who were encouraged
to promote COHNA to their provinces as well as solicit information that would be valuable for
building COHNA’s goals and direction. - The “Ask A Colleague Section” was developed and placed
onto the website to support OHNs
who may work in isolation, have a question or provide an opportunity for OHNs to network
across the country. - Business Cards have recently been printed to help the
provinces inform their members
that they are also members of COHNA. The cards are a way for members to have COHNA’s
website, email and mailing address handy. - A Speakers Corner Section for the website is being
developed as a reference tool to promote
using certified Occupational Health Nurses as speakers for conferences and workshops. - In May 2009, I spoke on a panel at the BCOHNPPG on
Trends in Occupational Health Nursing
at their request. This topic was well received and stimulated much discussion and ideas.
- I continue to participate on the CNA Occupational Health Nursing Certification Exam Committee.
- Marg Creen participates regularly on conference calls
with the CNA Associate and Affiliate
Groups and sits on the AAE Strategic Planning Committee, which is developing a vision and
mission for the AAEs. - The "What is COHNA" powerpoint
presentation was updated and will be available for BOD
to use to promote COHNA. The presentation will also be posted on the website. - COHNA would like to acknowledge the newly certified
OHNs and has started sending out a
congratulatory message.
