Our biggest challenge is changing the way we do things and finding the time to do all the necessary
work that will keep COHNA viable and a resource to our members. We need to cultivate and draw
from our members who are experts in their own right. When we all share the workload we are able
to meet more of our objectives such as:

  • To create a vision and goals to give direction and stay focused. To consistently inform all provinces of the work COHNA is doing.

  • To involve provincial members in the participation of COHNA activities. To have a COHNA presence at as many Nursing, Health and Safety workshops as possible.

  • To draw on the resources at CNA and other associations to help support us in some of our goals and tasks.

  • To market the importance and value of the OHN to employers, workers, nurses and student nurses as it applies to the cost/benefit of every business.

  • To teach COHNA members to speak the language of employers.

  • To work with educational institutions and nursing associations to increase the awareness of the specialty of Occupational Health Nursing.

These are challenging times. Together we can create a strong network that supports each other
as Occupational Health Nurses.

Thanks you to all the Board of Directors and Frances, COHNA’s administrative support, who have
worked diligently in the support and promotion of COHNA. Each of you plays an important role of
leadership and being the change in these challenging times.

Valerie Adrian, COHNA President 2007 - 2009
